We get loads of really big ones as our house is old and wonky with loads of nooks and crannys. I'm terrified of spiders. Is there a spray or something that would put them off from coming out of their hidey holes and running around scaring me?

Here is a link to a website dedicated to the eradication of spiders in your home:

I think you will find the information interesting and useful.

Good luck with your spider problem.

Ortho makes this spray that is ok for indoor use that kills spiders. Look for it at a hardware store or a garden center i.e Lowes, Home Depot etc.. It works pretty good. The problem with spiders is that they don't clean themselves like insects. You see when a fly or ant, cockroach is covered with poison and then they clean themselves that is when they inadvertinatly poison themselves. Spiders don't clean themselves so they can travel around with poison on them for day. Only when a spider eats an insect that is already poisoned will the spider die. However, if there aren't any bugs in your house for spiders to eat they wont come in looking for food. The best thing for you to do is spray this Ortho Insecticide by door jams and windows or any other place where a spider could come into the house. If you have pets or small children putting poison in the house is not a good idea. So then I would spray the outside where spiders might come in. I hate spiders as well but, they are good to have around because they get rid of undesirable insects like cockroaches, termites, flys, mosquitos and other insects that carry disease or damage your home. I hope this helps. Check out the Ortho website for more info on the Poison at ortho.com. The poison you want is Ortho Home Defense Max for indoors. Good luck.

I will spray all window sills, any holes or openings into the house, all door casings.

But a few years ago I took a chance on the electronic Pest control devices and I have had good success. They are about 3 for $20.00 at Lowes or Home Depot. We have very few creatures.

The most recent thing we have done that has almost eliminated any problem is that we have our lawn sprayed for critters in the grass and fertilized every two months. When We did this we stopped seeing even the occasional roach and spider. If you have pets that should take care of ever having fleas.

Hi, yes there is a spray, in fact at least two that I know of that REALLY WORK. One is called Acclaim and is only available from the vets and another is called Zodiac which we have bought from Pets at Home store. They are advertised as flea sprays but when you read the small print on the back it mentions other creepy crawlies including spiders. You spray it round your windows, skirting board, door frames, loft hatch and any other nooks and crannies and it is guaranteed to work for 12 months - and it does!! I recommend you buy one straight away :-)

Put a spider sign up with an X through the picture. Never fails.
You could put a message saying No Spiders but they can be ignorant at times and probably won't read it.

Sorry but spiders aren't capable of learning a sense of fear of something new. They are what they are and they go where they go. What you can do is get a cat. Mine would eat 10 or 12 spiders a day plus as many crane flies and assorted insects he could catch. All this aswell as the mice. Good investment that

you are able to borrow my cat Jessica - she is a grasp at spider gathering and ingesting. aside from that there is a plug you should purchase from Robert Dyas or different hardware shops which will deter the spiders coming in. we've a mosquito plug in the mattress room and have not had any in when you consider that this occurred. solid success

awww, he who hath the greater power, should have the greatest compassion. Spiders are people too, and they just are wanting what we all want.... A place to call home lol. Only spiders you might want to be a bit wary of, of course, are the Brown Recluse (or Fiddleback) spiders. They'll hang a nasty bite on ya. I believe there are some sprays or other substances available that discourage them from hanging out at your place. But I found it effective enough in my closets to just scatter some mothballs around. Seemed to work.

Place conkers around the house, spiders hate them and won't want to visit you again.
