I think if it's important to you , you remember it better. If it's not important to you it just doesn't stick with you.

Basically, you forget things you don't think is important enough to remember. Honestly. Besides, you only have 3 to 7 seconds to encode something in your brain, so by the time you read one paragraph, you may have only encoded 1-2 sentences in.
