I'd like to get them a token gift to say 'thank you' from my son for being his godparents.

Do they own their own home ? IF SO, here are some ideas :

1) Head down to your local nursery or home improvement store and pick out a tree to be planted. It is something they will remember and charish due to it being planted in the name of their godchild.

2) Open an IRA in their name for them. Make a one time contribution and encourage them to add to it throughout their lives. ((It doesn't have to be a large amount, call around it may be as little as $50 to get started)) Tell them you will do the same for their godchild. It is NEVER to early to start this for you child!!

3) Are the god parents husband and wife? You could get a brass plaque with their names engraved on it for the door of their home.

If the godparents do not own their own homes:

1) A greenplant that will hopefully live for years.

2) A clock with something special engraved on the back.

3) T-shirt saying " I'm the proud new godparent and all I got was this louzy t-shirt"

Godparents are very special and a theirs not a big enough gift to show your appreciation for all the hard work and help they give in this special occasion. I had my baby christened last month and i also had the problem of thinking on what to give them. I gave the godmother an arrangment of flowers and a gift card to a restaurant so they could both enjoy a relaxing dinner. You can also try a gift card for a couples massage.

I would like to think that when I have children and get them christened the godparents receive a gift from us to pass onto the children when they feel the time is right (like a st christopher necklace for example). To show that after many years of keeping the gift they also were reminded everyday how proud they were to be the childs godparent.

I would say it depends on what the gift is for...the Christening, Christmas,or their birthday? It's always nice to give them a framed portrait of your son. That is on the inexpensive side. On the higher end, you could give the woman a nice locket with her initials on it and a small picture of your son inside. For the man, a watch or monogramed cuff links.

write a poem saying how wonderful they are and why you chose them for your child, and put his tiny hand prints on it!

Day by Day I,
Trust my parents to guide my way,
And if one day you may have to
I'll trust you the same!(just an example)
