this is historically the biggest argument in all of Philosophy. I believe in free will. I also put this forward as my argument. If we are determined in life then there is no reason to have laws. Why jail a person for a crime, if he had no choice in committing that crime? Most of the world since the beginning of time has had man made laws. Judicial laws and rules on how we are to live together. These laws would not be needed if we are determined in life rather than have free will. So even if free choice is still argued, most people believe in choice proved through law.

you're not bound by the rules of society, but they do play in our minds as a guideline. Ever since you were little you learned of the importance of money, and society, or rather, interactions, prompt you to develop certain mental formations of how life should be, ex: after highschool, you should go to college, after college, you should get a job. But you don't have to do any of these things if you don't want to. What you want is what you want. No law of society can ever change that. Fortunately and unfortunately.

There is always free choice. Yes, in making our choices we do have to consider the rules of society. Choices have both negative and positive consequences. As long as you are willing to live with the consequences of your choice, you are completely free to make it.

It is true that there are rules in society we SHOULD obey, but we are not forced to obey them - we simply need to acknowledge there will be consequences by society if we don't follow the rules. But these choices are very large ones, and we make smaller choices on how we live, thereby exercising free choice, almost every moment we live. I chose to answer this question, i could have chosed to do something else with my time. By answering this question, i may have made something occur that would not have otherwise, or, reversely, stopped something from occur that would have had I not chosen to answer this question.

It's not that we don't have free choice, we do have it! It's just the consequences governed by society that might happen that might prevent us from having/making certain decisions.

You can choose to do anything you want to do, as long as you are willing to accept the consequences. The consequences are the part that most people who break the law or the rules don't consider before they act. What will happen to me/my relationships/my family/my life if I do this? What harm will come about? What good may come out of it?
