I havent read comics in years to much extent (sometimes read the new GI-Joe)

but since they started all these differnt controversies with Xmen and such i thought i might catch up.

I bought

"The complete XMen" on dvd-rom (40+ years of Xmen)
and
"The Complete Spiderman" also on dvd rom (again 40+ years)

I am trying to find out what all people are saying is wrong with these movies.

Can anyone tell me more about Venom for SPiderman? isnt that the name of the black spiderman suit? If memory recalls, he got it during a mission in space. But its looking differnt in the new Spiderman preview.

Anyone else have comic book collections?

in the old t.v cartoons, spiderman never went into space, it was mr. jamisons son, that brought it back fromspace. And eventually after getting rid of the black suit which is an alien life form, brock finally ends up becoming venow. Nt for sure how they are going to do it in the new movie though.

I can answer the second part of the question better:

Venom is really a result of History. Spiderman got the Symbiote suit when we was involved in the original "Secret Wars" mini series. Later, he discovered the suit was actually an alien creature that was trying to bond to his nervous system. He rejected the alien and the alien found a new host in Eddie Brock. Eddie blamed Spiderman for a lot of things, and with the suit, he became Venom at that point.

I haven't seen the preview of the spiderman movie, but they always tinker with the canon- check out the Secret Wars and spiderman comics from the 90's to get a better view of who/what Venom is.
