My boyfriend has had a Fox racing jacket since 1980's and it is totally worn out.. I would like to get him a new one for X-MAS but im not totally sure which brands are okay and which ones are gay. I know he doesn't want the harley jackets with all the silver buttons and stuff. I know Joe Rocket is okay and LBZ but other than that I need some Ideas. He rides a Suzuki GSXR so it needs to fit the type of bike he is riding!!!! So if any of you have some good ideas i would appreciate it! Ecspecially if its coming from a guy that rides his bike everyday and knows whats in and whats not!

I know safety is first!!!!! But I also know that there are stereotypes....and my man has had bikes and only bikes since he learned how to ride.....I dont want to get him a "pansy" jacket!

It all depends on the look you want. The more you spend, the better quality you get. Most afficionados will agree that Dainese makes some of the best out there. It also costs the most. A quality jacket by them will run $400. They are an italian brand. Joe Rocket is okay, LBZ is a new player on the block, but I would not buy either of those. Alpinestars has a good reputation and they do make nice looking gear with good prices. As great as the ICON brand stuff looks, it is not known for it's quality. Other foreign quality brands include Spidi and Kushitani, both Japanese. Vanson is an East Coast brand which has a pretty good reputation for jackets, although they are sort of 'trendy'. True hardcore sport bikers and racers usually wear the foreign stuff like Dainese, Spidi, or Alpinestars.

The biggest quirk about jackets is buying what fits. The jacket should be tight fitting if you want it to work properly (if you happen to 'test' it). Some brands fit certain body types better. For instance, thinner people fit the italian brands better. Some british brands (like frank thomas) fit the american (rounder) body better.

One final note, if he is riding everyday in this jacket, most seasoned riders love textile jackets. They are more versatile with weather and comfort.

Alpinestars and ICON are great jackets. ICON has a new leather jacket out for 2007 that is sweet. It looks like the TiMax 2 but its leather it is also high $$.

The Alpinestare jackets sell alot too. I like the looks of them, they have alot of choices and Alpinestars is always a good company.

Get a jacket in the $250+ range and I prefer leather over textile. If he ever does go down the leather is GREAT!

Tips for buying!!!

I own Cycle Mart USA.com and I am restricted on advertising many of the brands like Alpinestars and ICON but I am perfectly willing to take 20-25% off. You as the consumer you should call and ask for prices don't go on face value.

Another buying tip - Many on-line and local shops charge restock fees when they order a jacket for you find one that does not. Re-stock fees run 20% which can add up fast. There are only a couple places that don't charge the restock fees. hmm and Cycle Mart USA.com is one ;-)

They are evidently very hard to come by and imported. If you need parts they have to come from the the U.K or U.S.A. Yes,before you ask, on our trip he has bought yet another Harley Davidson, so I know there is already one in Luxor and in about 6 weeks the second will arrive. How he is going two ride two at once,it should be interesting! Altogether there are 3 in our garage but dont ask me what the other one is,its only a 350cc something or other. Yes I am sure he will be a happy boy if you buy him a Harley, seems they are up there with the ultimate"big boys toys" All I know is they make a lot of noise. addit: I think that was his motivation for coming with me as he did quite a bit of "boys" shopping while he was here.

The best brand is definitely Vanson Leathers. Vanson makes their jackets in Boston, USA out of competition weight hides and they last forever. It is not an accident that the best professional racers were Vanson.

Caution: Vanson has started making some of their jackets in Pakistan and they are not as good as the ones made in USA.

Get him the classic US AIr Force A-2 replica. They are classy and if you spend enough $$$ on it, will last him forever (or until he slides off the bike at high speed, then it will save his life).

What's in and what's not is just slightly less important than his life, ain't it? Or does he go around without a helmet when it's not in?

Here's where I got mine:

my advice to you is take him with you to pick the jacket, or ask the shop if its not to his taste can you exchange,
a jacket is not just a jacket, i like a certain type of pocket, pockets in a certain place + inside pocket, i like double zip front & large over lap to keep wind out, then you have length you dont want it to long or to short cold kidnys in winter,
also coulours go out of fashion every year.
now if he has had his so long he might not be ready for a radical change
