Dr James Watson who, along with Professor Francis Crick, Dr Rosalind Franklin (and Professor Maurice Wilkins), discovered the double helix structure of DNA. in 1953 the info below will help too.
1856-1865 Gregor Mendel founds genetics.
1869 Johann Friedrich Miescher discovers a weakly acidic substance in human nuclei he calls nuclein. It is later
called DNA.
1882 Walther Fleming discovers chromosomes.
1902-1903 Walter Stanborough Sutton uses grasshoppers to discover that chromosomes have genes.
1924 Chromosomes are shown to be made of protein and DNA.
1928 Franklin Griffith figures out that genetic information can be transferred from heat-killed bacteria to live ones.
1944 Oswald Avery figures out that Griffith’s substance was DNA.
1949 Edwin Chargaff figures out that no matter the species, the amount of adenine (A) equals the amount of thymine (T) and the amount of guanine (G) equals the amount of cytosine (C).
1953 Francis Crick, James Watson and Rosalind Franklin discover the double helix structure of DNA.
1961 Francis Crick and Sidney Bremmer figure out that three bases (a codon) are needed to code for an amino acid

Watson and Crick get the credit for this discovery and in these answers, but they were partly involved. There was one person who was also involved but has been pretty much forgotten. Her name was Rosalind Franklin.
She was the person who actually discovered the shape of DNA and made diagrams of the Helix. She took X-ray photographs of the DNA with the help of her student Raymond Gosaling but was unconvinced of the shape. The X-rays were described by J. D. Bernal as "amongst the most beautiful x-ray photographs of any substance ever taken". However a report made for an MRC biophysics committee visit to King's college in December 1952 contained a lot of her work. It is also believed, though this is not conclusive, that Maurice williams took a photograph of DNA from Rosalind's drawer. It's likely that Rosalind was completely unaware that her work was being used in the construction of the DNa model made by Watson and Crick.
The reason that Rosalind Franklin is almost forgotten is that she died in 1958 and the Nobel prize for the discovery was not awarded until 1962. The rules said that a nobel prize could not be given to a dead person.

James Watson, an American scientist, went over to England to see one of his friends. His friends name was Francis Crick, he was also a young researcher.
When he went to visit Crick, they saw some pictures of DNA x-ray crystallography, which is the science of the form, structure, properties, and classification of crystals. From those pictures they were able to determine that the structure of DNA was either spiral or helix. With the information based on what Watson and Crick found in 1953, they published a paper that described the theoretical structure of DNA. Research by many other scientists has proven that their idea is correct. For Watson and Crick’s work they won the Nobel Prize in 1962.

3 experiments lead to discovery of DNA
but watson/crick got the credit n they found out the DNA is double strand....
first experiment showed that der is something which is responsible for genetic inherit...they thought it was protein later it was discoverd that it was DNA

Watson and Crick discovered the double-helix form of DNA. It's actually an interesting story. Watson and Crick were close to decyphering the structure of DNA but another scientist (whose name I forget) held the key idea. One night they took him out and got him drunk, and they tricked him into revealing his theory on the structure. Subsequently, they used part of his theory to develop their own idea of the double helix.
