Basically any monitor is compatible with any desktop computer. It may even be connected to a laptop. Before buying a new one. You may want to check the display settings in your control panel (System/Device Manager). Make sure that the correct drivers for the video card and monitor. You may have to start-up in safe mode in order to do this. What I did before to solve this problem is to delete the monitor entry in the device manager and restarted the PC. Windows will automatically detect the monitor connected to the PC. Same is true with the display card if you decide to delete the entry for it. But it may require you to install the video card driver.
Please note that if your old monitor is 15" and you buy a 17/19" monitor, you may have problems if you don't correct the settings in control panel. Monitors of different sizes operates on different frequencies and may give you the same problem of monitor shutting down during windows boot-up/start-up.

Look at the connector on the end of the monitor. Any monitor that has the same connector will work on our computer.
If the computer is only 10 months old, you amy want to contact HP about it. Normally their PCs come with a one year warranty. If the monitor has gone bad already, you may be entitled to a free replacement.

All monitors have one of only a few connections. Either VGA (the blue conector with 15 pins in 3 rows of 5) or the DVI (White connector with 2 groups of 9 and one single pin). Al you need to do is get a monitor with the same connector your system currenlty has. No problem

omg that exact same thing happened to me... ok all monitors are compatible with your cpu... becasue mine is a hp with a view sonic monitor.... the thing is that if the model is made from the year 2000 and down it is not compatible but if they come from the 2001 and up they will match any cpu guaranteed because just if doesnt match by a coinsidence save the receipt and exange it for another one.

I suspect the CPU..the fault should not be with the monitor...
Before you proceed with any changes..check out your warranty.
Else, Please contact the HP technician here...it is easy and accurate too....
