Texas is both south and west, but mostly west.

Both are in the south, although Texas is often considered the southwest. Virginia is south of the Mason Dixon line so that makes it a southern state.

It depends, sometimes they call it the southwest. Other times they call it just the south. It's never just the west though. It's right there in the middle of being the south or west.
