Royal Mail http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm have suggested last posting times depending on where you posted and where you want the letter to be delivered. If posted after this time, Royal Mail are unlikely to be able to deliver the letter. If posted before this time, Royal Mail will aim to deliver to deliver first class letters the next business day but does not make any guarantees.

The fact that you have posted mid-afternoon, you have a very good chance of the first class letter being delivered to Liverpool tomorrow.

Not since the Night Mail train was taken out of service. I have noticed that my letters from here in Scotland no longer get next day delivery down South. Despite correct address,Post code and correct postage.

Part of the poem ‘Night Mail’ by W.H. Auden

This is the Night Mail crossing the border,
Bringing the cheque and the postal order,
Letters for the rich, letters for poor,
The shop at the corner, the girl next door.
Pulling up Beattock, a steady climb:
The gradient’s against her, but she’s on time.
Past cotton-grass and moorland boulder
Shovelling white steam over her shoulder,
Snorting noisily as she passes
Silent miles of wind-bent grasses.

Birds turn their heads as she approaches,
Stare from the bushes at her blank-faced coaches.
Sheep-dogs cannot turn her course;
They slumber on with paws across.
In the farm she passes no one wakes,
But a jug in the bedroom gently shakes.

I'd say so, but it truly depends on the time of the last post. Most places will have one after 3.30pm, so it would be likely to get to the destination by tomorrow morning...as long as the area you're posting to has a Saturday postal service.

In theory yes, letters are sorted up until 10pm when they get sent out to the areas they are aimed for. I worked for Royal Mail for 3 years and generally the mail does get out on time but obviously mail can get lost or delayed especially at this time of year.

Hope this helps.x

Yeah it will get to london by the next day if you put the correct postage on the letter. 32p for small A5 size letters, and 44p for large A4 size letters.

It probably will but might not - I believe that the performace statistics show that they deliver about 90% of 1st class letters the next day.

no here if you post before 10 it gets somewhere not too far the next. 3:30 seems too late to make it anywhere the next day
