Proper English is going to be one of your biggest obstacles, so i suggest you join the library and get books that can help you (read and speak + write the language properly), communication is very important, the correct way to structure your sentences so that people can clearly understand what you are saying!!!.
Don't fall in the trap of speaking this new half baked English that young people seem to be speaking today!!!,that's not English.!!!
We either speak the Kings English or Hill billy Americanism.!!!
As for joining youth programmes try a book club, etc.!!!
Good Luck - From a fellow African( South Africa).!!!
