Hello fellow Cellist. I have been out of school a while now (I won't say how long). I was in orchestra, and I played in a chamber music group. I practiced everyday just before going to bed. If you really love to play, it doesn't matter how much you practice as long as that isn't all that you do. Every new group of musicians brings new expectations. If you practice well and study hard, you will the best that you can be.

I play cello, too! I've played since 4th grade, and I think that's enough practice - whatever feels right to you! Some people need more practice than others, and some people need less practice than others. I practiced only when I wanted to because that way it never became a "chore." Many schools will make you practice for a set amount of time, though (my school did), so that might answer your question, too. Just practice to the extent that feels right to you, and have fun! I love the cello.

when i was in school, we were supposed to practice 30 mins a night, at least 5 days a week, so it sounds like you are getting the right amount of practice in for the week. don't worry, i'm sure you are good enough and school orchestras are there not just to perform, but to help teach.

I've been playing cello ever since i was in 4th grade. Most likely when you try out for seating placements their ging to make you play something like scales or sight read. All i can say is good luck:)
