I am very pessimistic on this one. The 21 year age limit for drinking is not even enforced well, how would lowering it help? It is definitely a societal problem in the US and lowering the legal drinking age is one idea (or raising it), but I think we need to spend some time on how it can better be enforced and how we can keep younger people from getting their hands on alcohol legally or illegally, especially if they are going to get in a car and drive.
We can look at what has not worked. Education about the dangers involved has not worked. Changing the ages back and forth has not worked. Parents seem just happy their kids are drinking and not taking drugs (perhaps some education for parents).
I vote NO...and sorry for just asking more questions, lol.

Some studies show that the younger we start with experimenting the drug and alchohol, the more likely we will have an addiction to it. I tend to think it is a choice and sometimes hereditary. What they should do is limit the kinds of drinks to folks based on their age. 3.2% beer for a 19 year old only, then any kind of beer by age 20, then mixed drinks but no shots or doubles at 21, then at 25, anything goes. Would be harder for the bartender but at least it is a gradual increase so there is time to experience the safety levels for each person and what they can handle or see an addiction coming.

the legal age for drinking in Ireland is 18 but that doesnt make a difference in some places. I know people who have been getting served from the age of 14. it depends where you go

Lets make it for 16. That way, the new teeny boppers being on the road THAT think their skilled drivers can kill one another.
What are you stupid? They should change it to 22. Have of 21 year olds still lives at home with a parent, dont work, and lays up in the house all day, eating their parents food, begging for the car, that they did not pay for.( and I didnt say all 21 year olds were like this)

I say make it 15. There are so many doing it anyway.
Seriously, 19 is reasonable. If you can die for your country, you should be able to drink if you want to. (We used that argument back in the 70s, too, and it worked for a while, in some places.)

I would agree that there are some serious flaws in the age-based permissions systems. If a man is old enough to kill and die for his country, he should surely be old enough to vote and/or drink alcohol.

I think it should be lowered to 18, if they can be sent off to war, be tried as an adult, vote, and get married. They should be able to drink!

No. Most 19 years I know aren't mature enough to handle coffee.
