when your blood is exposed to the oxygen in the air it turns it red.

It doesn't turn red when it is exposed to oxygen. It is red. What you see through your skin is the color of the veins.

It turns out that hemoglobin has a red color to
it and that oxygenated hemoglobin is bright red. So in arteries blood
appears to be bright red. This is true inside and outside. Outside of the
body the color actually fades a bit (becomes darker), because there is less
pressure to keep oxygen associated with the hemoglobin. But if you cut an
artery the blood squirting out will appear bright red. Blood that is in
veins, however, has very little oxygen associated with it and this yields a
color that is much darker. As you noted, because of having to look through
the skin at veins they actually take on a blue tint, but really the blood
inside (and if you cut a vein) is just a deep shade of red. You can also
see this in persons that have stopped breathing or have blood flow blocked
to a specific area; they appear blue. (A condition referred to as cyanosis.)

All blood is red. Oxygenated blood is bright red, and de-oxygenated blood is dark red. It looks blue in your veins because the tissue between the blood and the outside world bends the light and makes it look blue. (Like the atmosphere makes the sky look blue) The proof that the blood in your veins is NOT blue is this: if you have blood drawn into a syringe from a vein (or give blood at the red cross) it does not come into contact with air. It is still red.

well if you think about it in an unoxygenated room you wouldn't make it to see the results before you passed out...and no i don't think it would turn blue or purple...it depends on where you get cut...for example it you cut your arm kinda deep the color of the blood is dark red...because it is unoxygenated blood...it doesn't just miraclously turn bright red...it stays dark...now if you cut your neck or wrist..somewhere close to an artery..it is bright red because it is rich with oxygen from the lungs..not the air around you...blue and purple are the color of the veins under your skin...it has nothing to do with your blood and the oxygen it contains..

With no oxygen in the air, I don't think you'd be in any position to find out!

But the blood could have oxygen in it from breathing, which is enough to make it red.

haha i asked my science teacher that too! like the exact same question, ugh yes and no, the color of ur blood is red when itss inside ur body, it has some blue in it but wen u look at ur arm what u see is ur veins that are blue, ya and u really couldnt test it correctly because u would be ablue to breath and u could use a mask put it leaks tiny amonts or air and wen u breathe in the oxygen ur blood carries it so ya.

If you were in a room with no oxygen, you would be flopping around on the floor, starving for air.
Death would occur in about a minute or two, and the last concern on your mind would be what color your blood is. B.

It depends on weather or not the blood had been oxygenized in your body yet. If it is the blood on the way back to your lungs, then yes it would be blue.

If you find yourself in a room with no oxygen then you've really got bigger problems, and probably shouldn't waste time cutting yourself!
