There’s only 3 kinds of rappers, gangsta, conscious, and pop rap (you know, with all that singin and stuff, very commercial) In this industry, having a “soft” look as a rapper, when doing gangsta rap (which is the big seller) is not the look they are going for, will not sell, and they will be outcast and taunted as being Gay. Not all rappers look mean or try to act hard. Look at Common, Mos Def, Talib, Outkast, and Lupe Fiasco. Those 5 are conscious REAL HIP HOP artists. No dope dealin’, no drive-bys (they may talk about it but it’s not their main focus), none of that because that’s not the message or lifestyle they live (or front and try to portray like most of these gangsta rappers who are really fake out here). The only guy I know that was able to pull off all three types, and look hella sexy was L.L. Cool J. So to answer your question, only gangsta rappers try to look and act hard, all the other rappers just do whatever they feel because they don’t have to uphold that negative image.

They a) the two decide to coach that they are tough "at present day Outta Compton" adult males, or they b)decide to grit their the teeth mutually to coach off their "grillz". Which i think of the two seems are stupid. yet, could you purchase a rap album with a parental advisory sticky label on it if the rapper on the conceal is smiling innocently? in my opinion, i'm frightened of the two. :)

It's just an image. It sells music. Singing about slappin that booty or livin in the hood doesn't work so well with a sweet smile on the cover of your gansta rap CD.
As for me...........................
