I'm just a kid wondering what is the difference between the two. Someone told me that democrats are pro aboritions and gay marriage while republicans aren't. Which one is better?

If you are a kid, it's time to go to school and ask for some civics lessons. The democrats are not homogeneous - that is one of the differences. Whereas the Republicans allow no discussion within their party - you have to support everything or you are not a republican - the Democrats are a broad house that allows differences of opinion.

Even so, in both parties you'll find some that support and some that oppose both issues you mentioned. And there is definitely not general support for gay marriage in the Democratic party. In fact, it was President Clinton, a Democrat, who signed into law the Defense of Marriage Act, which forbids the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages. It was also Clinton who approved the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy for the military, which forbids gay men and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. Under that legislation, several thousand men and women have been fired from the army in the last few years (despite the fact that they had important skills like Arab translation)

The person who told you that was the difference was incorrect.

Republicans used to be the party for fiscal management and responsibility, but they stopped that six years ago and have been on a huge spending spree with tax payer's money. In the process, they've created a national debt 50% higher (8 TRILLION dollars) that you as a kid can look forward to paying off for the rest of your life. Under Clinton, the nation debt REDUCED every year - so I guess the Republicans are no longer willing to be fiscally responsible.

Generally though, the Democrats are better at representing the interests of the majority of Americans (those earning less than $100,000 a year), and the Republicans are better at representing the rich. The Democrats want everyone to have health care, and for poor families to be able to feed their families. These are not priorities for Republicans.

Overall, I strongly feel that the Democrats are better than the Republicans. There are some bad Dems and some good Reps. Dems are not pro abortion. The are pro woman's choice and this is where the abortion issue falls under. They are not pro gay marriage. They are for individual rights and tend to agree with domestic partnerships. Republicans take a don't ask don't tell position on both issues. In my opinion, here is the best way to define the Dems and the Reps...

Dems: Pro civil liberties and social welfare. Champions of the people, peace and prosperity.

Reps: Pro big business, tax cuts for the richest Americans. Feel a war is the best way to drive the economy.

Good question kid and I have an answer for you:

I am democratic and while I dont approve of abortion and dont really care for gay marriage, I will defend to the death someone's right to make that choice

NOW THAT is why I am democrat....I support freedom and republicans seem to support forcing their idea of what is right on others and I just think that is WRONG

Democrats: for all Americans
Republicans: strictly for the rich

In response to Only P's response:

"Todmaz--your generalization of republican is incorrect and liberally biased."

Their comment isn't a generalization nor liberally biased. It is based on fact. Republicans will send our sons and daughters to war (while their children rest on their laurels and eat bon bons); call the democrats--ahem, AMERICANS terrorists if one doesn't agree with their Hitleresque views; invade a country (which by the way was in no way linked to Al Qaeda) and begin a war to line their own pockets (e.g., Bechtel, Halliburton); continue oil drilling in pristine terrain (support for the oil barons [Saudi Arabia]) all at the expense of America's citizens.

IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY

I'm an American and I support this response. ;o)

They're both controlled by rich snobs who are sheltered and ignorant, spoiled and bossy, but incapable of realizing that they're not superior to others who didn't win at Sperm Bingo (being born rich.) Your opinion and your living conditions mean absolutely nothing to these snakes.

There's more to it than that. Republicans tend to be more conservative and think the government's role should be limited by keeping taxes low, which benefits the rich and stimulates the economy, thus generating higher tax revenues. Democrats are more liberal and believe that government should use tax revenues to help the "disenfranchised" members of our society.

The Democrats care the middle class families, but the Republicans care their special interests and make sure that their pockets are getting bigger everyday.

Pay close attention to the responses you get. You can find the answer in them. Lots of hatred from both. Form your own opinion.

Democrats as you know, kill infants, and are mostly gay supporters, but they are also pretty much against anything moral and want to make everything politcally correct. Alot of them are atheists too. You do the math.
