What should I expect at my 35 week doctor visit? Are they going to check my cervix and all that? They haven't done it before, so I figured it was time :) And what are the visits like after this one?

Starting your 36 weeks, you will be seeing your doctor on a weekly basis. Depending on the doctor, he/she will be checking your cervix at 36 weeks or after. My gynecologist checked my cervix at 36 weeks and I was 3cm dialated and 80% thinned out. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what happens after 36 weeks. As soon as I found out that I was 3cm dialated, I did a lot of walking. Three days after the check up, my water broke and I was giving birth at the hospital. Do a lot of walking and sleep as much as you can. The walking will help you induce labor and sleeping will relax your body prior to pushing.

Starting at 36 weeks, the appointments become weekly. My OB/GYN starts checking the cervix from 37 weeks. First time she checked, it was painful. I remember my OB saying, "I know it feels like I'm reaching all the way up to your throat."

They'll also do a Group B Strep test (they swab the vaginal and anal openings) and if it tests positive, then you'll get an IV of antibiotics when you're in labor. They'll repeat the Rh test, if your blood type was negative the first time.

They may also do an ultrasound to determine that baby is head down (if they haven't already done so).

Sometimes they'll put a fetal monitor on you and/or a non-stress test just to see how baby is doing, and how baby reacts to contractions.

Hope that helps and good luck!! You're in the home stretch!!

Regards,
Mari

Usually they measure your belly, blood pressure, urine, Doppler the heartbeat, they don't usually check the cervix for a few more weeks but you can always ask them if you think you are dilating. Good Luck and Congrats!
