installing "Netgear" DG834GT - ADSL Modem Router for Wireless broadband connection.
I followed the instructions to the letter and although it told me it was working, I couldn"t retrieve my "Home Page"

I spoke to an "Indian" gentleman at Netgear, but couldn"t understand a word he said.

Looks like I"ll have to pay someone to install it for me.

Thanks Netgear.

I know just about everything there is to know about modems/routers and networking...

#1 What is your internet provider and did they provide you with the modem, or did you purchase one yourself....

#2 Is the netgear a dsl modem/router, or just a wireless router? There is a huge difference.

If you have dsl, and a mode, and you bought a wireless router to make it wireless dsl...

You will need a few things.

#1 Access your modem provided to you by your dsl company (for example bellsouth) you will need the ip address of the modem to access its settings.

#2 You will want to go to the modems settings, and tell it to BRIDGE connections, instead of PPOE which is the default it is on.

#3 Once you do that, hook up your router to pc and dsl modem, access its settings and tell your router to use PPOE and put in your user name and password, just like it would have been on the dsl modem...

If you got a modem/router so that you could just have 1 box that does everything, then you will need to contact your internet provider for the proper settings as the modems they send usually are pre programmed to an extent for you...

However, try using the PPOE setting and putting in your username and password...

NOTE: If you have cable, and not dsl or adsl, cable internet requires that you CLONE the MAC ADDRESS in the router, to be able to connect to the web. AS cable modems are registered specifically to your PC when first connected by a technician.

I sold mine on eBaY and bought a Linksys instead...the setup was easier. Linksys is pretty crappy and decidedly lowend but it works well for what I use it for.

I could be that you "fat-fingered" the password on setup or the password didn't take correctly because you should be able to access it. I dumped mine because it kept losing the configuration but it wouldn't default to factory settings unless I forced it...4times and I punted! Linksys will at least keep it's config.
