melwil is right - you retain what you use, and you tend to forget the rest.

Also remember that going to college (should be true for any school, really) is not just about memorizing a bunch of facts. You should also be learning how to think critically, how to form persuasive arguments, how to solve problems. These are skills that should be retained for life, even if you can't remember Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion or the works of Charles Dickens.

It depends on if you use the info. you paid to have. Your brain is like any other muscle. If you don't use it you lose it.
