Your best bet would be to return/exchange it to get the one you want. I say keep your MIL in the loop on this. Ask her to come to the store with you. Be specific about what you want and dont want out of this high chair. She was a mom once too and i'm sure had her own preferences. But if you include her she wont feel mad or hostile when she comes over and it is obviously not the chair she purchased.
Good luck and congrats on the baby!

It depends on your relationship with her and how sensitive she is. Especially if you get something totally different (like a booster seat that straps onto a chair) it's more understandable than if you go out and buy a similar chair. Ultimately you should have what you want, but another thing is that if you haven't had a baby before you might not know exactly what you want. I hope that doesn't sound insulting but I bought the highchair I absolutely wanted and later decided I didn't really like it.
We lived in a one-bedroom apartment with my husband, daughter, and me until she was almost 2. It was so great to save money on the rent and it wasn't hard at all.

I think you should have a chat with your husband and then get him or you (if you feel comfortable) to have a chat with her, point out that maybe you would love this high chair but it's maybe not quite going to work aswell as something else. I think you have to do this now otherwise you'll regret it when getting prezzies becomes a regular occurance (you could end up with a million prezzies in your cupboards that are no use). Why don't you say that and then ask her to go with you? Maybe not what you really want to do but she sounds like she's OK...your call but I would try to talk to her...put some laughter into it. Good luck.

Just explain to her that you really do like it, but it's much too large for your apartment. Ask her if she would mind if you would exchange it for one of those nice chair attached ones. They have some that look like hair chair tops, but strap onto a normal chair. I'm sure she'll understand. And for those who say she wouldn't notice....she'll be looking for that chair when she comes over, so to her and you a favor and be honest.

Return it to the store, and get the one you want. You'll be using it for a long time, especially if you have more than one child. If your mother-in-law asks about it, tell her you loved it, but you really needed one that folded up, or tilted back, or whatever feature this one didn't have. Most reasonable people would understand!

that is your decision, i would say you should talk to your husband and see what he thinks or even talk to your mother in law i am sure she will understand if you tell her how you feel.
good luck.

Exchange it...she probably wouldn't notice anyways. If she does just tell her that you have your eye set on a different one.
