I have been watching LOST since it began. I was wondering if anyone has theories on what the heck is going on there.... I first thought it must be that they were all dead and in purgatory and couldn't "die" or leave the island until they worked out a conflict/problem in their life. Now I am starting to think that the others are some type of cult or something... Any theories?

Remember how Desmond tried to leave and just ended up back there? When the Others sent Michael off, they told him a compass heading to follow and he'd get out. The Others have contact with the outside world. Someone, I think it was either Ben or Desmond?, made a comment once about being in a snow globe. That makes the most sense to me. The electro magnetic whatchamacallit maybe created a bubble of some sort where no one can see them, they can't get out....

??????????? It's fun to ponder isn't it? Great show!!! I just started season 1 a month or so ago, loved it, and finished 2 and watched 3 online, just in time to catch up and watch this last week's episode with everyone else,.... and now to wait out the next 3 months. :(

Lost is actually about group of plane crash survivors on an island. In season three, it is revealed that plane fell from the sky after breaking into two pieces. It was witnessed by inhabitants of the island, which the survivors called them The Others. The Others seemed to live in small isolated and utopian society. Maybe a cult or just a lone society. There is a leader named Ben who found out he has a tumor and two days after he witnessed a spinal surgeon fell out of a sky, from a plane. Maybe its a society that wanted an actual contact with outside world.
