to clean your computer of downloads, teporary files etc;

go to my computer

click C drive

right click the C drive and click properties

when you click properties your disk space will show and then you will see a DISK CLEAN up option

Click the DISK CLEAN UP option and the computer will auto scan file folders etc. that can be eliminated to free computer space.

After scan you will see an info box that will give you options to CHECK if you want these files/folders deleted; DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES is the very 1st option; check that box and other you want to delete and you should be on your way to cleaning up and freeing up space on your desktop.

Oh! It can take time, so do not cancel or close out windows while the process take place!

Those files go go a c:\windows\temp folder. Unfortunately it changes every time you reboot the computer. You can clean these files by going to Tools--Internet options and deleting temporary files. In Firefox tools--clear private data, if you haven't done this and you do it now, your computer will work for a while and may seem like its frozen but that's normal, just wait for it to clear out the files. Or if you want to be absolutely sure everything gets cleaned out, download CCleaner this thing cleans everything and cleans stuff I never knew existed. This is a high level tool, so I would be careful if you decide to use it.

IE, by default saves them to the desktop.. Firefox can be configured to save it to a location of your choice.. never open a file while online.. always save it, scan it, then view it.. btw, you can always use the search option to find out the file
