I see the Dr. next week; at my last apt., 3 weeks ago, he told me to watch my calories and cut back on what I am eating and since then I have been eating much healthier; have been eating less per meal than my 11-year old, in fact. and yet I keep putting on so much weight. I just don't know what else to do. I asked if I could workout at all and my Dr. was against me doing anything more than a sedate walk, I think because it has only been 14 months since my last delivery by c-section. I will take my glucose test next week, but I am wondering what else I can do to control the weight gain.

Well, lately my legs and feet have been swelling more than normal and my right leg keeps getting painful cramps--I know that this is normal though. My breathing is getting worse, but I attributed that to pressure from the baby.

Are you retaining water? Severe swelling? You might want to go in and have your blood pressure checked or go to a pharmacy and check it yourself. If your bp is high, you have ringing in the ears, blurred vision, or swelling in the hands and face you should get checked for pre-eclampsia. My blood pressure got so high (and I gained 7 lbs in water weight in one week) they had to induce labor at 34 weeks for fear of stroke or seizure. Take care of yourself.

EDIT: With your added details you should go in and get checked for pre-eclampsia. You will do a pee test for protein in the urine and have your bp checked and compared with previous readings. If it is 15 points higher (even if it is still low compared with others) you will be put on a monitor for an hour. If you test positive you will probably be put on bed rest until 34 weeks and maybe given some medication. Pre-eclampsia can be deadly for you and baby so please get checked.

Hi I am 27 weeks pregnant too and I have only gained 11 pounds so far, I was already a little bit overweight when I got pregnant so I was allowed to gain 15 pounds only, I do not over eat, If I get hungry between meals I Drink a nutrition shake or a cereal bar. However one of the symptoms of gestational diabetes is rapidly gain weight, I have already done 3 of those glucola tests and I hope yours come out fine but that is one of the symptoms including your swollen feet, I have not had any of that yet but I know I will when I get close to the 9th month. Sometimes we think we are eating healthy but we are not, they should send you to a nutrition class.

You're more than half way there and at the point when the baby really begins to grow, so I don't think it's a huge deal that you're gaining 3 lbs a week. As long as you are eating healthy and taking walks you should be ok. What you don't want to do is to deprive yourself because then you're depriving the baby. Are you on pace to gain the normal amount (30-40 lbs)? If so then you should be fine, but obviously your doctor is the best to tell you.

I know you said you are watching what you eat but, are you eating healthy? I mean...cut on the carbs and increase fruit and vegetables, fatless meat and chicken, lost of water....The same thing was happening to me...I went for a glucose test and it was very normal....so I was just putting weight because of what I ate. I started being more concious of what I was eating, no more junk food (not that i was eating all the time, maybe once in the weekends), no more sweets, no more pizza or potato chips....after a month of doing this I only gained 2 lbs which my dr said it was the right amount. Good luck

How do you hands and feet feel? How about your breathing?
Write down everything you eat/drink in preparation for your next visit. Make sure you are getting enough water.
This could be normal weight gain or you could be retaining too much fluid which could be dangerous. Call the doctor and talk to a nurse in the office so they can give you more advice prior to your visit. Tell them what you wrote here.
I wouldn't worry about the weight gain as long as you are reassured that it is healthy weight.

I agree it is probably a baby growth spurt - the weight is just a sign that the baby is developing fine. When I was pregnant with my 1st child I put on 15lbs suddenly in the last part of my 2nd trimester and it was a good thing too I was to deliver 3 weeks early and she was large enough and developed enough to thrive (she is 18 now). Stress is as bad for you as excessive weight. Try to relax and as long as you are eating well and drinking plenty of water you and baby will be fine. You'll be in my prayers.

i put on 15 pounds in one month when i was 5 months. But ive slowed down since then.
Sometimes the baby just has a huge growth spurt, and it has nothing to do with your calorie intake.
Maybe it will slow down on its own, since you're obviously cutting calories it cant be from over eating. Keep up the walking if you're able to. its good for both of you.

The books say a pound a week is average. So that would be 4 lbs every doctors visit on average. Are you getting plenty of water and fiber rich foods? That may help...with elimination.
