chef needs milk this is 2% butterfat for her recipe. how many quarts of milk tha is 4% butterfat and how many quarts of milk that is 1% butterfat must she combine to make 6 quarts of milk that is 2% butterfat

x(0.04)+y(0.01)=(x+y)(0.02)
x+y=6
4x+y=2x+2y
2x-y=0
x+y=6
adding
3x=6
x=2
y=4
so she has to add 2 quarts of
4% with 4 quarts of1%

You have x amounts of 4% and y amounts of 1%

x+y = 6 (since you want to make 6 quarts)

.04x + .01y = .02(6)

Now solve the two equations using either substitution or elimination.
