I was told that you should start going to the gyn doctor at the age of 18. From then on, you go once a year. I prefer most women gynecologist, because they too, have the same anatomy, and female issues. Not always do the men understand. There is no reason to be scared. The first time is a little awkward, but you'll get over it. Every woman has to do it. Ask around about local gyn doctors, and see who others see, and what they think about them. Word of mouth, is a great place to start.

At 19, you really should go have a pap smear. It doesn't hurt (well, it can a little, but not much), and it's something you should do for your health. If you're becoming sexually active, you might also want to talk to your doctor about a birth control pill or other method. I've been to both a woman and a man, and I really don't think they're much different. Actually, I prefer the man (just didn't like the woman much). It's totally up to you who you see. Good luck!

Girl, you should get your a** to a Gy/Ob ASAP! (Pun intended) Seriously, you SHOULD go. It sounds like you have never been before. You are 19 and a woman. I know it is embarrassing and unpleasant, so is getting a digital prostate exam, but I do it annually because the consequences are far worse. You need to take care of yourself. Ask around for other women's advice on who they go to and who they like. Get as many women's opinions as you can comfortably get. Try the one that sounds right for you. Don't get an exam on your first visit. When you call for an appointment set it up for a meeting just to talk with the doctor. Get to know him/her,ask a lot of questions. If you feel comfortable with them, then set up an appointment for an exam.
Then return for regular check ups on the recommended frequency. If at any time you are no longer comfortable with this doctor, then switch to another. Whether you choose a woman or a man is just a matter of personal preference, the main thing is to choose a good doctor that you feel comfortable with and have confidence in.

You do not need to see a GYN doc specifically as your regular doc can handle all of your needs. You should have a pap smear though when you are 18 or when you become sexually active whichever comes first. Since you are over 18 you should definately have your first GYN check up. As for male or female doc............that is merely a personal preference. All docs have gone to school to help people and they have seen it all before and heard it all before so nothing you ask or that they see will shock them. Your doctor is there to examine, prescribe and treat you from minor things to more complicated things. If you prefer to see a GYN doc that is fine but otherwise just schedule a pap and pelvic along with your annual physical at your regular docs office.

No, they can not unlock any understanding that you do not wish them to. However, if you are facet of your dad or mum's insurance policy and you wish to have detailed exams or drugs that could have some thing to do with some thing you wish to maintain individual, your mum and dad perhaps capable to determine it out if they are nosy adequate (despite the fact that so much something can also be handed off as a a pursuits approach or a traditional illness). But medical professionals, in particular gynecologists, are entirely conscious of the ought to be discreet, they fully comprehend your issues, and from my revel in, are very sympathetic. Some of the exceptional medical professionals.

You should have gone to the OBGYN when you were 18. Before you think about having sex - go on the pill - rubber is not 100% safe. Ask your gf, mother, sister, or any women that you know which doctor they could reefer you too. I personally don't think it is a big deal if it is a women or a man. It depends on the doctor. I went to both and had good & bad experience with either gender. The important thing is that who ever you go to makes you feel at ease. Good luck to you. When you go for the 1st time, let the doctor know and explain to him/her that you are scared. If he/she is a good doctor they will explain every little thing to you that they do during the exsam.

I think it would be a good idea for you to go. I prefer a woman, and you might also. You sound like you have a lot of questions, about your body and sexual activity. The GYN can help answer those questions correctly so YOU can make informed decisions about your life. Going to the GYN is not just for the pelvic exam, it is a place to gain knowledge about your body. The pelvic exam is important also, but don't worry. Write all your questions down before you go, even your concerns and worries. Good luck

Its important to go to the gyno once a year after you are 20 years old or sexually active (whichever comes first). Just make sure that when you do have sex its safe and protected. As far as going to a man or a woman doctor, I tend to like going to guys better b/c they seem to be gentler, where as women doctors go through it themselves and dont seem as senstive

Of course you should go before you have sex!! Do you want to get pregnant? If not double coverage is a must! If you chose the pill you need it at least a month for it to be fully effective. See a woman Dr and ALWAYS USE A CONDOM.
Good luck and have fun.
