well they couldnt because vince owns them, i think TNA should buy the name from vince, they would gain instant fans that remembered it from being on TNT and TBS.

I think WCW could be revived as a brand name, but they need someone who is familiar with WCW before the WWE absorbed
the company to run it. ECW isn't as exciting under the ownership of WWE, as it was when Paul Heyman and to a lesser extent,
Todd Gordon, were in charge of the promotion. I say let the WWE
take care of the business end of it, and let the creative staff handle the storylines and so forth. WCW basically selfdestructed
when they let the wrestlers handle the booking. Eric Bischoff,
for all his flaws, is a much better booker than Vince Russo,
Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes, Bill Watts, or any
booker with a background as a pro wrestler. He would be the natural choice to lead the revived WCW. It was his brains that helped Nitro defeat RAW week after week. When they let other
guys handle the booking outside of Bischoff, that's when the company really started to self-destruct, with their ridiculous
contract guarantees. I think if WCW is brought back, it needs to be done in the right way, to bring back the booking style and flavor of WCW, when WCW meant something. Eric Bischoff tried to get an investor group to buy the assets of WCW, when
it was for sale in 2001, but couldn't manage to do it. He would be
the best choice to run it in my opinion, despite of what people think of him. He's not my favorite guy either, but he has a track record of getting people interested in his product. Bring back WCW only if it can be done in a manner that respects what WCW in terms of the Monday Night Wars. Anything less would disrespect what was once the promotion that had the WWE on its' heels.
WCW is really just the old Georgia and Mid-Atlantic territories joined together. WWE, when it was known as the WWWF, and later the WWF, was also part of the National Wrestling Alliance, before they broke off and formed their own promotion, and created their own world title. The old AWA territory, run by Verne Gagne, was also part of the NWA, before they broke off and formed their own world title. The same applies to ECW. This is in reference to comments made by In_The_Light. WCW broke off from the NWA after Ric Flair left for the WWF in 1991. The first WCW World champion was Lex Luger, when he beat Barry Windham in the final at the Great American Bash. I think the confusion lies between the NWA and WCW, because WCW territory wrestlers dominated the NWA rankings. There were wrestlers from other territories such as WCCW (VonErichs), Pacific Northwest, UWF (Mid-South), Central States, and Florida that also received shots at the NWA World Champion as well. Let's not forget the Japanese wrestlers too, who received shots
at the NWA World heavyweight title. Kerry VonErich became the NWA World Champion when he wrestled for his father's World Class Championship Wrestling promotion. TNA just has license to use the NWA World heavyweight championship and tagteam championships until 2014. As powerful as the WWE is now, the
NWA, in its heyday, was even more powerful, if you can believe
it.

NWA became WCW when Ted Turner bought them. NWA wrestling was being broadcast on TBS but wasn't owned by them... When Turner bought them out, the rights to the NWA brand and title were retained by the owners (Jarrett's)... So when Jeff Started up TNA wrestling, he brought back the NWA title to give it some sort of instant credibility. That's why even though McMahon does own WCW he did not get the rights to the NWA.

Unfortunately, Vince owns the names that WCW owned including that of the federation. NWA TNA is apparently the only competitor to WWE. While nowhere near the WWE in regard to sucess, their acquisition of Kurt Angle is a good sign.

No because Vince McMahon owns it now.
If they brought it back, it would never be the same.
Just like the new brand ECW, it would suck being under McMahon's control.
