I'm only 38 but my four year old elbowed me on the side of my eye and it turned into quite a shiner, moved down below my eye and is just fading away two weeks later. This past Monday night I got elbowed in the side playing basketball and it's turned into a huge bruise. Coincidence or shoud I be concerned? Thanks!

Yes, you should be concerned. It can be several things, some serious, some not to serious. But do go to your physician for lab tests.

It could be that you're just playing too rough. However, I would have a CBC w/ platelet count done at my doc's office. In 1999, a friend of mine noticed some odd bruises on the backs of my thighs. Upon further examination, I realized I had developed bruises at all of the pressure point sin my body, my wrists, arms,, legs, buttocks, etc. The blood count reveales an auto-immune disease called ITP, which can be very serious. However, since it was caught early enough, a large round of prednisone knocked it out.

When in doubt, go to the doctor and talk about your concerns.

Bruising is a sign of low vitamins and thinning of the blood. Enjoy eating some good green leafy veggies or red meat. The eye area has very little protection when hit so bruising is really expected. I would also talk to your dr. There are many things out there medically that can be a cause of this.. some are critical and some are mild problems.. Good Luck...

Sounds pretty rough!! Is this sudden onset? Any of your meds changed? If you've had a physical lately, they probably ran a CBC. Call and ask specifically about your platelet count. If they were not in acceptable range, you should have been told. You can expect bruising with this type of trauma. Still uncomfortable, check with your Doctor.

Do you take aspirin or any kind of blood-thinner regularly? This could have something to do with it.
What you really need to do is see your doctor soon & have some tests done. There are various things that could cause this. Some are serious & some aren't. Either way, you need to know so you can be treated for it.
Take care of yourself & good luck to you.

I think you should have some lab tests run, you could be anemic,or something more serious. you might be low in somekind of vitamin as well as iron. do you take anything that thins your blood if so it probably needs to be tested and readjusted.
