If you've had other kids before then lower back pains come with the territory so I couldn't tell you on that one but it could be a number of things with the feeling of starting your period. I had cramps in the beginning of all three of my pregnancies and it was just cramps. You should worry if you bleed along with those cramps. Now some spotting is normal but if you have any blood clots or the blood is bright red, go to the ER. With my first pregnancy I had those cramps and I was told that the baby is stretching out my womb so it could be that.
You know how your body is and you should have that woman's intuition kicking in so if you feel that there is something wrong, go see your obgyn. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck to you!

I went through the exact same thing! I still get cramps and I am 11 weeks pregnant. Your uterus is growing and expanding to be able to hold the growing baby. If you are spotting or bleeding along with the cramps then there is a problem and you should call your doctor. Otherwise, you should be fine. Let your doctor know how your feeling at your next visit. I did and she made me feel a lot better!

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. Your body is going thru some really big changes, so you're going to feel out of sorts for a while. I wouldn't be concerned unless you started bleeding or the pain didn't subside after a day or so.
I definitely felt strange the first few months of pregnancy myself. I also had the "round ligament" pains in my hips that was pretty uncomfortable, but common. Your Dr. will be able to tell you if things are OK or not. Don't be afraid to call his office if you are worried.

You are not having contractions at 5 1/2 weeks along. Having had miscarriages, feeling like you're going to get your period is usually not a first sign, so don't worry about that. I'm now 20 weeks along and at my 6 week checkup, I said the same thing to my doctor upon having to get on the table for the pelvic exam. I was unfomfortable and nervous that I was going to start bleeding on my doctor, but my doctor said she hears from 80% of her patients that the first sign of pregnancy is that you feel like you are going to get your period when you're late.

What you're feeling is very normal. Over the next 9 months as the baby grows, your body will go through many changes and sometimes you feel cramps that are very similar to period cramps. Drink as much water as possible, get as much rest as possible, take a pre-natal vitamin and try to eat as healthy as you can. With that being said, if you want to eat a candy bar, eat one. Keep a list of questions you have for your OBGYN to answer on your monthly appointments (it's best to keep a list because one of the "side effects" of pregnancy is forgetfullness; very normal but annoying).
Congratulations and best of luck!

I had experienced it when I got pregnant for the third time and I ended up having a miscarriage so if I were you I would go to the doctor and tell them what is going on and ask if there is any thing you can do about it especially if it turns into bad pains. best of luck to you.

yes. Its normal.
So long as you're not getting any colored discharge, or cramps that start in your back and crawl around your belly, causing you to feel like you're bearing down, youre fine.
I had cramps so bad for the first three weeks, i seriously thought i was starting my period, i took pain killer and wore a pad.. didnt know i was pregnant :)

It could be contractions. Make sure you are not dehydrated. That made me have contractions early but I was at 5 months. If you keep having symptoms, call your doctor. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Don't worry yourself! Hormones cause all kinds of chages on the body, you will experience all sort of uncomfortable phenomenon! If you begin to experinece pain that is too unbearable to handle, then I would suggest going to the emergency room right away!
