Depends on how well you know his sexual history. If you don't know how many girls he has slept with then, yes you should be worried. Nice guys get STDs too. Diseases do not discriminate.

Birth control is only 92% effective acording to usage. Look it up. every year 1 in 100 women get pregnant while taking the pill. Missing one pill, taking pills at different times during the day, your body's natural ability to change its hormones- which changes the dosage needed to control them... all these things take away from its effectiveness. When proper dosage is given, and checked regularly, pills are taken the exact same time every day, and a pill is NEVER missed, and has been so for atleast three months, THEN the pill is about 98% effective. But no one takes it like that. Everyone screws up at some point.
If you're okay with those odds, then no, you dont have to worry.

If your on the pill and taking it properly, regularly without fail and don't miss and pill's the no there is nothing to worry about in the respect of getting pregnant. As long as you are both faithful to each other then there is also nothing to worry about in the respect of std's. Condoms aren't just used to protect us from getting pregnant.!!

Hi,
The pill will not stop you contracting an STD, and no contraception is fool proof. If you and your b/f do not wish to start a family yet then I would consider using the pill and a condom, not only will the condom protect you from STD, it will also give you more protection against pregnancy. The Pill is something like 96.7% accurate, so use a condom just to be safe, unless you are both TTC?
Good Luck,
Baby Dust to all trying to conceive!

Yes, first birth control does not protect you from STD. If you are worried about getting pregnant it can happen on the pill especially if you take cold medicine or you miss pills. I would suggest using a 2nd method of protection if you are not ready to have a baby at this point in your life.

The pill isn't 100 percent effective especially if you don't take it religiously every day (I'm assuming you do!) or if you're poorly. You really should be using other protection for other reasons anyway, unless you are trying for a baby. Ask yourself if you know his history? Has he been a bit of a boy in the past? You really do have to take joint responsibility for this one!

The only way to be sure that you won't become pregnant is if you don't have any sex. Peirod. There is always a risk, even with the pill and condomes. Plus the fact of STDs.

The pill is 98% effective if taken at or near the same time each and every day,
Be wary of STD's though, and AIDS. Condoms prevent against this, but they do break, so be wary.

You are 99% protected against pregnancy but not protected against STD's. I have been on the pill for ten years and have never been pregnant.
