Once you get out of prison, you are generally on parole for a while. During that time, you must get your parole officer's permission to travel out of state. This is usually granted for any reasonable purpose. Indeed, you can even move and have your parole transferred to your new location if you have a good reason and your current parole officer agrees. Once you are no longer on parole, there is nothing to stop you.

We do not have border crossing checks in the US except on occasion when there are med fly scares and that sort of thing. Quarantine. And there is no reason to worry about such a check once you are no longer on parole, unless you have outstanding warrants for another crime.

P.S. Sorry, I misread your question. I saw "travel IN USA." If you are planning to come to the USA, you need a visa. Having a criminal record would not necessarily be a bar, but it might. The facts of the case would be considered. Was it a minor youthful offense which you have long since put behind you, or is there a long rap sheet, including recent charges? I do not believe a tourist or business traveler would be barred simply for having a criminal conviction on his record. Probably not a student, either, in most cases. For landed immigrant status, they are of course much more strict.

I've wondered about that.
If its pot poss. I say whats the harm. If you stole or attempted murder I'd say we have enough in our jails as is, And enough morally corrupt people ******* over the working class as is. In America we prosecute the poor, if you have money you can get a lawyer and get out of convictions. I had know idea when I was 20 how ****** up things really are. There is no real fairness to things. Its about money and "I'm better than you are" in America.
I'd rather be poor and living in Tibet!

I know that the USA doesn't allow it's criminals to go out of the country and if I'm not mistaken they do not allow criminals from abroad to enter the country as well.
