I've read no more than an hour or two a day... I was one of those bad mothers who let my girl take a nap in her swing however. She loved it so much though! She's met all her milestones just fine, and she's a lively12mth old now so her swing days are over. I wouldnt worry too much about the stopclock but certainly not all day long.
I nursed my baby, and thus she was in my arms approx. 8hrs a day. She slept in our bed at least part of most nights. No worries about her needing more human contact! You need to give your child attention, but saying 30min max a day while you get a quick shower, fix dinner, whatever... only 30min a day for yourself? Sorry, but that isnt enough. Dont kill yourself trying to take care of your child. If your baby likes the swing, let them have their swing! And maybe I have a different swing than some, ours can hold babies up to almost 20lbs, with lights and music. Our best baby buy, I think. Babies need 'tummy time', so of course putting them down on the floor on a playmat when they are comfortable getting on the floor is a good idea, but even in a swing babies are using their little muscles. My girl would reach out to touch the toys in front, and turn her head to watch the moving lights/little animals turning around above her.

That is a great question. While they are young the swing is a great thing. My son was 8 lbs when he was born and only stayed in the swing until he was 2 months old. My daughter was 9lbs when she popped out and she never made it to a swing. My youngest was 7lbs 11oz and she stayed in the swing for 1 month. She didn't like it much. It depends on the size of the baby and whether they like the swing as they grow.

Well as long as the baby is strapped in and safe and you need to get things done around the house we all know with a young child we have to do what we can well the baby is at peace so my suggestion as long as he is happy and you have things to do, but also consider a blanket on the floor with just items he or she can look at change the swing before they get bored, also the floor allows them the ability to learn to roll over grab with there hands and at 6 weeks they are not going far. Your baby will let you know when enough is enough

until you start feeling guilty for not playing with the baby. Really I wouldnt leave the baby in there longer than an half an hour or so, dont let him sleep in there. Its not good for thier neck. Playing on the belly and sleeping on the back is the best place for a 6 week old baby.

Just brief amounts, 30 minutes max. While you're busy running the vacuum or showering, something like that.
I always wanted to hold my babies a lot, because they made eye contact with me and I just adored the way they cooed and smiled at me. I found that the more time I spent with them, the LESS spoiled they became, very good natured and content. When you see kids cranky and the mom or dad saying quit it, go away, it is sad. Sometimes the less contact makes things worse. When they are comfortable and feel secure, it shows in their behavior.

If they like it there is no "time limit". Just remember they need human touch & contact to grow emotionally and feel loved. Those swings sure are great though when you need to do laundry, dishes, mop the floor, etc. Don't know what I would do without one for my 9 month old & my 5 week old grandaughter.

My son sometimes slept all night in his swing-it was off though-but he refused to sleep in his crib until about 3 months old.If I laid him in the crib he would cry all night and no one would get any sleep. The swing was a life saver! It won't hurt your baby to be kept in it for long periods.

I let my son sleep in his swing the whole night at this age. It might be a slight SIDS risk. Go to www.babysake.com to find out more.

As soon as your baby stars fussing, its usually time for something different. At six weeks, some Baby's don't hold there head up for too long. And sitting down puts pressure,on the spinal cord so 5min.or less.

it depends on how the baby reacts to the swing. i mean if she is happy about swinging you could leave her in there and like if she is content and possibly sleeping you can leave her in there till she wakes up.
