i dont want to marry and dont want to spend over the odds, is there a way for me to go and live over there without doing this? thank you

You could try to apply for a work visa or a student visa and then work on applying for citizenship if thats what you want. Why not consider a move to Canada then go from there to apply for everything. Canada has health benefits and such as well plus you could cross into the States and explore anytime to get used to things.
Don't cross illegally, if you are caught you get sent back to your own country and have to start over from square one.

Unlike this country the US have stringent immigration rules, you cannot simply turn up because you fancy living there.

They want to ensure that you are not going to be a burden on the country and that you can support yourself financially.

In the UK the exact opposite is the case, the more of burden you are to society the better your chances of getting in.

Yes, the best way is to move to Mexico and cross the border illegally. You can get free health care, and other government benefits.
