Some Liberals are too liberal. Being liberal is being open minded. I'm a moderate liberal. I think that some of the things the ACLU does and says is too liberal. I wish there was a middle party in American politics so I would have a choice other than the Up-tight Corporate Lap-dog Party and the Hippie 'everyone's Ok' Party.

The ACLU is basically an advocacy group for the Bill of Rights. They are not so much defending the "offending" persons or group as they are defending their RIGHT to 1st Amendment excercises. That's why you might see a Jewish ACLU lawyer defending Nazi's right to march or a black ACLU lawyer filing a motion to allow a KKK rally.
When it comes to the 2nd Amendment, the "liberal" ACLU has a very close working relationship with the "conservative" NRA. They see eye-to-eye on protecting our rights to bear arms.

I think it's because we live in a country that was founded on everyone having rights no matter how disgusting or repugnant we find their beliefs or ideals. As much as people might find the ACLU intolerable because they defend the rights of people who most find undeserving of such rights, it's a valuable service.

That's what makes America such a great country despite any mistakes we make. It's great that there will always be people out there willing to defend the rights of people who may not "deserve" it. It's not our money, or our military power, or our technology that makes our country what it is. It's the idea that everyone deserves rights no matter what we think of them and no matter what they think of us.

And the only price we have to pay for such a great idea is being willing to tolerate the existance of people with views that we find disgusting.

ACLU- it is they who fight to take God out os school, when you know the kids of today NEED the power of prayer- and the fact they HATE Christmas... WHY HATE it??? Christmas has been around for many years, for families to get together, eat and celebrate, you DO NOT have to be a christian to celebrate christmas!
