When baby is either too big to fit comfortably lengthwise or is too active to stay inside safely it's crib time for your little one. Good luck, and happy parenting!

I would suggest looking at the warning label on the your bassinet. Each bassinet I am sure is different but the one I have says that it only holds 15 lbs and there is a age limit. The bassinet is for convenience and for the parents well being as we do not want to get up in the middle of the night and stumble through the house to our baby and also because we are at first really worried that we will not hear the baby cry but of course we can hear a pin drop from the time they are born. It is hard to put the baby in the crib but once they start moving around they enjoy the extra room.

It's ok that the baby is still sleeping in the bassinet but it would be ok for the to sleep in the crib as well. Usually the bassinet isn't used after the baby starts to roll move, move around a lot, or they begin hitting their arms, legs on the side of the bassinet and waking themselves up.

You can keep the baby in the bassinet until he reaches the weight restriction or when he can roll over, whichever comes first.

There is no time when a baby should be sleeping in the crib. Some people go from bassinet to their bed if the baby is still waking up at night and they have outgrown the bassinet.

I read your question too quickly, I thought you were asking about the baby sleeping in the basement. Anyway, with regards to the bassinet; let your baby sleep on his/her back as long as you can. When your baby grows more and looks uncomfortable in the bassinet, then move him/her to a larger bed. This will also save you some money in the short term (if you haven't already bought a crib).

I think now would be a fine time to move your baby to the crib. I know my bassinet instructions say stop using once the baby either reaches 3 months or 18 pounds (which ever comes first).

I kept my daughter in a bassinet when I was awake during the day for her naps until she was about 4 months old. As far as the crib part, I have never used one with either of my two girls, but they can go into the crib as soon as they come home from the hospital. just make sure there are no pillows or loose blankets in there with the baby.

A bassinet is more of a convenience issue. They're meant to be used so you can move baby around the house, next to the bed etc. There's no reason baby can't sleep in the crib.

Personally, I never used a bassinet with my three children. I just put them in their cribs and co-slept with them on occasion. Bassinets are fine for the first few weeks, but, a baby should be transitioned after the first month for safety reasons (unless the child has health issue or was premature). I know that many people feel that it's cruel or mean, but, my kids all slept through the night by six weeks and are great sleepers now.

Baby should sleep in the crib from day one. Bassinets are for convenience. A 3 month old baby should do all sleeping in their crib.
