Well you can take a squeeze at them and if it doesn't come out, there is no more. Or this may seem gross to some but have your significant other suck on the breast to see if any milk will come out. Now if you are trying to dry them out you can either stop breatfeeding or the doctor should have a shot that will dry out your breasts. If you're worried that you're going to get dried out, breast feed the baby more and massage the breasts along with the feedings and it'll produce more milk. Good luck!

You didn't say if you're trying to dry it out our if you are low on producing it. I lactated 5 babies :) If you are low and want to increase, putting the baby to your breast will stimulate the production. If you lactate more often, you will produce more, and vice-versa. Even nature operates on a supply-and-demand in that area!
One of the pitfalls is not knowing how much milk the baby has had at a sitting since you don't have a visual ounces to look at but it doesn't matter because if he's content he will have had enough.

Your breasts won't feel full anymore and you will not continue to lactate. If you are wanting to continue lactation and increase your milk supply try using a breast pump every 2-3 hours (even if you get very little milk at first) or you can nurse your baby that often. I used a herb called Fenugreek which helped to increase my milk supply in the beginning. It makes you smell like maple syrup, but it works! It is safe for baby.

Well usually your breasts will swell when they are full of milk and if you do not feed or pump then they will dry out. It takes about 2 weeks for them to fully dry up. First you will experience swollen breasts, then tenderness and leaking. Usually it will happen when your baby cries or during the night time. Make sure you wear a bra with good support and also put pads in your bra.

If you're waiting to dry out it should take 2 - 3 weeks to dry up once you've stopped breast feeding. That's about what it took after my 1st born... but it took almost a full year for my milk to dry up after I stopped breast feeding my 2 nd child.
Hope this answers your question. Try to be more specific with your next question...

you will know when your breasts no longer swell up. if you eat healthy at all times then you can breast feed longer but when you breasts no longer swell and no longer have any pain in them then that's usually a sign that they dried up but if you also keep feeding your baby then they will not dry up because when they feed they will keep the flow going.
