Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn't happen.

Actually sponges make the ocean deeper, as their volume displaces the water. This is because they are completely submerged. you could somehow suspend them half way out of the ocean then they would make the ocean less deep.

Yes they do grow in the ocean--but--as has already been pointed out by one astute individual-- they, by their volume ADD to the ocean depth---cute question though and sometimes I think that we need more of these in here---some levity in the midst of madness !!!!
