If you really want to be a professional, you need to approach your training like a professional. Hire a good coach and follow his or her instructions meticulously, including all the practice and exercises (scales, tonals) for at least as long a period as suggested by the coach. Also consult with the coach on health issues; what foods to eat and to avoid, what vitamin and mineral supplements, how much sleep, etc. A real, professional singer uses the throat hard, and must learn how to care for it. And no more screaming at ball games! Learn to applaud instead.

You really have to think twice about this, I mean you'll always be on the road, away from family, getting up early and preforming in front of millions of people. But yes your gonna have to practice you gotta have experience. And it will take a long time for this dream to come true if they really like you and the way you sing I will probably come it a year or so. But most singers had to wait at least 3 years to be in this buisness. Read some biographies on singers. And there is no such thing as overnight sucess! But you will make it.Just take singing lessons, and be in musicals if you really think you can sing thats all the practice I can think of. And one more thing if people say your not good enough just tune em out and live your dream!"Peace"

I have been a singer/songwriter for many years....first of all you have to be brutally honest about your voice, because there's no use in saying you want to be a singer, and you just cant sing, or hold your notes, or hit different vocal ranges....if you are really serious then try going to singing classes....I'm not boasting but i never did go to singing classes, because i was blessed with a voice to sing my whole family are really beautiful singers.....but you know what they say practice makes perfect, so you should practice a lot singing lots of different songs so that you can become versatile to sing anything....when you feel ready to sing something do a demo tape so can hear what you sound like....if it is any good it will be time to let the producer hear it, trust me they will be brutally honest with you if they listen to it......but good luck anyway i hope this helps a little. Remember you can be anything you want to be...dont let any one tell you different.

Even if you have a good voice you need to start with singing lessons, get a teacher with experience in the field you want to perform in, someone who can teach you techniques and has connections to guide you properly. Remember that singing every day, on your own doesn't equal practice. Get a professional, they might be expensive but very worth it.
I also suggest you can take a job as a back up singer for any local band or performer so you can gain experience and maturity.
Good Luck

I took lessons 4 days a week for 2 hours each from a coach with a degree in teaching and music. Also practiced 2 hours a day on scales and my music of all genre's. Practice makes perfect. Perform for lots of people to get feedback. Practice practice practice. Sing all the time. Learn to read and write music, also record yourself and listen to it, then fix what sounds bad. Get a coach or instructor who knows what they are doing. good luck.

Get a voice teacher. Practice any chance you get. Learn scales. Learn how to read music. Learn all you can about music history, especially the artists that influence your own style.
It's good if you don't smoke.

Sing along to your favorite songs. Record yourself and hear what you really sound like. Show your voice to many people and get their feedback. If its positive then your on the right track.
