take a hike and have a picnic lunch, play frisbee or kickball, make your own scavenger hunt and search for things like colored leaves, flowers, smooth pebbles/rocks, etc, or make a family time capsule and find a special place in your backyard to bury it...

Is your family into sports? if not then it depends on where you are going. You can go hiking in a mountain, boating, swimming. You can have a picnic in a nice place with a nice view for example in a lake. You can go jogging together. You can have a bonfire at night near the beach. You can walk together in a park.
Is your family into themeparks? Then go to the nearest one in your place.
The place doesnt have to be too beautiful. What is important is that all of you are together!Q

Check into Geocaching. It's using a gps to find something someone has hidden. There are geocaching clubs all over the US. Great family fun.
