You can tell now, by them doing an amnio test, however this greatly increases your risk of miscarriage. I don't think it is worth it. If you can hold off another month and a half, give or take a week, then they can do an ultrasound to try to see what the baby's genitalia is, however if your baby is anything like my oldest daughter was, she kept her hands and her feet around her bottom and no one could see for sure what she was going to be.

It is very common to be worried that something will go wrong with your pregnancy. I think most moms-to-be have those feelings. There are only 2 really reliable ways to know what the sex of your baby is. The first is, obviously, wait until the baby is born. But, if you have to have an amniocentesis done, you can find out accurately what the sex is. This is not the purpose of an amnio, however, it is usually only done for a medical reason such as to screen for abnormalities or diagnose a problem. Ultrasounds may show the gender of your baby, but they are not always 100% correct. Usually about the 20th week of your pregnancy, some doctors will perform a routine ultrasound just to check on how things are going and to see if the baby's development is on track with the due date. However, babies do not always cooperate during this ultrasound and are not in a position to determine the sex. Don't get your heart too set on finding out early what the baby will be as it may not be possible.

Ultrasound is the least invasive way to find out if you are having a boy or a girl. It is best done during the 18-20th weeks of your pregnancy. Prior to this time the baby may not be well enough developed to get an accurate answer.

A baby's genitals begin to develop around 14 weeks. Therefore it is possible to tell the sex of the baby anytime after 15 weeks.....however, your chances of finding out around the best after 18 weeks, that is if the baby is cooperating!!

Last year I had twins and I found out the sex at 16 weeks, but I've heard you could find out earlier than that. I guess its depending on how good the sonogram equipment is..
