well my mom and I start putting Christmas decorations up gradually at the beginning of December but we don't get the tree until the week before Christmas so that it is fresh for Christmas. We decorate the tree a couple days before Christmas and we paly music while we do it.

The general rule of thumb for me and people in my neighborhood is the day after Thanksgiving. Though in my own opinion, that is too early. I usually put mine up on the last day of Nov. or the first of Dec. I wouldnt put the decorations up any later than the 1st week of Dec. b/c it would be like - why do all the work of decorating for xmas if your only gonna enjoy them for 3 wks or so?
Another thing you can do, is just ride around your neighborhood at nite and once you see a few houses with their xmas decroations up then u will feel more comfortable going ahead and putting urs up.

Hi there - The tail goes 12 days before Xmas and you take them down 12 days after - anything else is bad luck. Apparently years ago before it became Commercial, Christmas started on Christmas Day, not 12 days before, or whenever we felt like it (Oct/Nov). People put up their decorations on Christmas day, and then celebrated the 12 days, and then took them down again on the eve of the epiphany (that’s twelfth night). Xmas is a religious thing after all!

Anyway have fun and put them up when you have the time.

I always put them up on December 8, the anniversary of John Lennon's death. A bright light was extinguished that day, so I put up my bright lights in honor while playing his song, "Happy Christmas"

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

It's all relative, but my family usually starts after Thanksgiving, around December 1. That gives us a month to enjoy the Christmas season. But don't leave them up past New Years!

It has long been a family tradition to start decorating our home the day after Thanksgiving. I also used to take my children to see any newly released Christmas movies on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Now I take my grandchildren.

For most of my decorations...I like to do it the weekend after Thanksgiving....but we always get a real tree and if I put it up too early..then it seems to dry out no matter what I do....So we do our tree about 2 weeks before Christmas......Good Question...Thanks....Have a Great Day !!!

personally about 12 - 20. I have a fiber optics tree and a banner my deceased wife made and that is all unless you count some candles. the more one puts up the more one has to take down. in less than 15 minutes I can be done with either way.
