I manage a complex that houses more than 80 over 55's in Halifax, West Yorkshire. My residents have expressed serious interest in learning about computers. I would like to know if there are any organisations that anyone knows of which donate old corporate computers with an OS and basic MS toools to a good cause.
The company I work for is a registered charity, thus cannot supply the computers, nor pay for the OS/MS license, hence wanting them pre-installed.
This is a legitimate request, so serious replies only please, I can be reached for more details of the organisation and scheme through messenger.
Also we have a sewing club and are looking for an overlock sewing machine, we have plenty of space so would be happy to accept one of industrial quality.
Thanks for all your help, if you can offer any.

Maybe a local computer store will be able to advise you on this. Likewise a sewing machine shop/habidashery. Or you could contact the local council and find out details about local funding bodies. There may be a project set up already for these kinds of things. Have you thought about contacting your local radio station and asking them if they'll broadcast a request to local people and businesses for help? It may be that there are lots of people with old computers or sewing machines at home who haven't thought about where to take them?

i know this is a long shot but have you tried ringing the Calderdale royal (or whatever its called now...used to be the royal Halifax infirmary when i lived in Halifax) They may be able to help with donations of their old computers as hospitals update their hardware and software all the time. Also try approaching Halifax Building Society in the town centre (if its still there) they may sponsor you to raise money or even donate something for you.

Actually you would be suprised how many companies are throwing away there computers for new ones. I would call or stop by some office buildings etc... and see if they have any computers there thinking of throwing away.
