We get the flu, strep throat, horrible vomiting viruses......why don't our animals catch these things from us?

they do, they just don't respond the same way as us....for instance did you know if your dog starts to limp a little, that is actually a sign of a fever? if his nose is dry that's also a sign that he's ill. A pet being sick is not at all the same as humans being sick. Their symptoms are very very different. You have to read up on them so you can spot them right away.

The viruses we have do not seem to want to live in cats or dogs. they live in pigs and ducks though. Why? ask the virus. If you can "catch" one. that was bad sorry. Cats may have been the last animal domesticated and the viruses may not have had time to adjust to sharing cats and people. Of course that doesn't explain why dogs and people don't share a virus because dogs may have been the first animal domesticated.
Pigs were probably the second and fowl came up close behind. Pigs, biologically are alot like us.

Different viruses like different diseases cannont be transfered from human to animal and vice versa. To put it in lehmans terms, the viruses we get dont thrive in an animals body. A good example is pets have fleas, but we cant get them because they only thrive on an animals blood. We can however catch parasites and disease from animals and those are called zoonoses. Hope this helps!

Some animals can catch the common cold from us...and we can catch things from them. It's through something called "zoonoses". Birds are very susceptible to colds...ferrets can also be suceptible to human illnesses. Mostly it's the other way around...we can contract many illnesses from animals, but the others are right. They have a different immune system.

No. you've been given a good number of undesirable suggestion on the following from those who're purely guessing. maximum viruses (with some awesome exceptions which incorporates avian flu) are species particular and hence won't be able to be transmitted from one species to a special. hence, your cat or canines can't capture your chilly, yet may be weak to viruses that you does not capture from them.

Some they do catch. In most cases, they are immune to our diseases, due to genetics. In others, their immune systems are more efficient than ours. There are also differences in the way toxins (poisons) affect them vs. the effect on us.

Genetics & immune systems keep us from suffering from some of their diseases. Be aware we share some, especially intestinal parasites, so be careful concerning hygiene around your pets.
