A friend saw a reference to the British 'Shilling' coin and wondered what's a 'Shilling' worth in U.S. money? He thinks the coin is no longer used, but maybe someone can give us an idea?

The old British shilling was 1/20 of a pound. They were struck until 1969 and still circulated as 5 pence coins for some time after that.
For many years (up until World War 2), the pound was fixed at US$4.80, so a shilling was US$0.24 back then. Currently, 5 British pence is about 9 cents.
