1. Yes, I can point you in the right direction, but you have to do your own research.
2. You need to consider between three and six African civilisations (the term city state has little or no bearing in an African historical context). Here are my suggestions:
a) West Africa: (i) Ashanti Empire, (ii) Dahomey Empire;
b) Southern Africa: (i) Zulu Empire, (ii) Great Zimbabwe;
c) North/East Africa: (i) Abyssinian Empire (ii) Nubian Empire.
They all have plenty of websites, as you will see if you input the names, as stated here, into a search engine.
3. Find out about:
a) hierarchical structure - kings, queens, chiefs etc.
b) social structure - villages/cities, role of men/women etc.
c) system of justice - trials, punishment etc.
d) language
e) religion
f) external relations - war/peace, trading etc.
4. Compare and contrast those different civilisations that you have researched. Explain in what ways they are similar, but also describe the areas where one is unique.
5. Use the search engine at www.dogpile.com, because it simultaneously searches on google, ask, yahoo and msn. Try not to use wikipedia as a source because (a) it is not always correct, (2) too many people use it, and you should try to get marks for originality.
Good luck.
