Get software like NetNanny or Cybersitter (my son is 23 now, not sure what the best/current ones are) Also why does an 8 yr old need a "private" account?? Also make sure the only computer he can access is in a public area of the home where everyone can see what he's doing - because unfortunately even if you block out websites you still have to worry about bad chatrooms and IM's in addition to bad websites. Good Luck!

I'm not spamming, I promise, but one of the reasons why I have stuck with AOL for many years, despite it being a bit pricey compared to some other ISPs, is because it has great parental controls. My kids are set up as kid accounts, and the software will let them only go to specifically for children websites, or websites to which I give them permission. They can only get emails, and can only instant message, with people I specifically authorize. This eliminates all spam. AOL also blocks pop-up ads. I'll probably stay with AOL, for these reasons, until my kids grow up and move out of the house.

I am assuming you are an adult. He's eight. Are you bigger than he is? Are you smarter than he is? Did you give him his own user account? Does the computer have a plug in the back? Does your computer have any blocking capabilities? Does he have any magical powers over you? Oh well... the sinfulness of mankind... :) [Sorry about the sarcasm. Seriously, good luck!]

You have to set up parent control on his user account. Also you have to constantly check on him and see what he's up to. A good talk would be nice and if he does not listen and continue to disobey you, then by all means not computer unless it's for homework.

Utilize parental controls to set the security settings on your computer to filter out potentially harmful websites.....and supervise your child.

Well you'll have to get on his account, and set up a filter to block those sorts of sites, I would think.

I think, 8 yrs. old is enough to be advised or even to be scolded.
