Barely wise enough to know that, in his line of work, if he does not kill, he will be killed. But NOT wise enough to change his line of work [ i.e. not wise enough to realize that if you live by the sword, chances are, you'll (eventually) die by the sword.]

in my experience wise guys are dumb but just really good at pointing out the bleeding obvious
