Many issues surrounding handedness are still poorly understood. There is a theory that lefties learn differently from righties. The theory goes that lefties interpret things pictorially while righties do it digitally. Lefties can interpret obscure things a little more easily than righties, such as the backwards clock, Kanisza's Triangle, etc.
Generally, though, there is little difference in learning abilities when self-confidence levels are maintained. Many lefties will have lower self-confidence because they have been trying to do things like their righty friends but with consistently poor results. Cutting with normal scissors is one example. Give the child the correct equipment for the task and they get much better results (don't we all!).
In the classroom, position and handwriting are big issues. A lefty needs to sit to the left of a righty so they don't clash elbows when writing. They should sit toward the middle of the classroom to reduce the incidence and impact of mirror writing. A specific left-handed writing technique is required to ensure legible and comfortable writing without smudging the work.

Some research suggests that since the opposite sides of the brain control the opposite side of the body, it would be possible to say that left handed people learn differently.

I don't think I learn any differently than anyody else, but as one of the moms above said it is sometimes very difficult for a left-handed kid to be in a classroom and try to learn physical activities. (Try learning cursive writing when the teacher keeps yelling at you for not doing everything exactly the same way she is, even though you are smart enough to know that since you are left handed you need to be exactly opposite to what she's doing. Not a pretty situation, which may explain why I barely write in cursive now, or it could just be that my hand writing was pretty horrible. :) )

Have a nice day. :)

i'm a lefty. I undergo in ideas writing backwards for a jointly as. I grew out of it tremendously immediately. It occurs through fact we replica the hand strikes, and its somewhat greater complicated for a lefty coz maximum adults and toddlers around are good handed. not an illustration of any issues, I could think of. not except he additionally mixes up the order of the letters and can't string mutually alphabets interior the order that he sees them. occasion: if he writes COW as WOC, thats not too numerous a difficulty, yet while he copies it as CWO or certainly one of these combination, shop looking at and correcting him, and notice what occurs. i don't understand how previous twelve months son is so its somewhat puzzling to tell. he's in comparison to... 8 or 10 or something good? we are speaking pre-schooler here are not we? the main's to be calm and merely shop correcting him. he gets it in time. do not initiate treating him like he's unusual, or he will have faith you and make your worst nightmares come authentic.

I don't think they learn differently. But they do write diffrently which is difficult in the school system. I'm a rightie and my 6 year old is a lefty. He's in 1st grade and learning how to write . They try to teach him to form letters a certain way but he does it a little backwards. As long as he writes it correctly who cares how he got there!

No, they don't. But apparently they learn quicker (cleverer), or their aptitude for learning is great
