If you are concerned then you should put a password on your computer and only let her on it when you are home and in the room with her. Our computer is in our dining room and none of our children are allowed on it unless their father or I are home and keeping an eye on them. Even our 16 year old has limits to what she can do and what kind of websites she can go to. The computer is so dangerous to teenagers. Why wouldn't you use something so simple as a password to keep her safe? She might get mad at you but like I tell my kids," if you're mad at me for parenting you then I must be doing it right." :) Good luck and have a blessed day!

I have a really crazy idea before you go and do all this. Why not just come right out and ask her why she feels the need to do that. I would give her the opportunity to explain why she feels the need to log off whenever you get home or come into the room. If she doesn't tell you then tell her that where she can't be honest with you, You will have to take steps to protect her from the harm that can be done on-line. Do not under any circumstances tell her exactly what you will do. She may be smart enough to devise a way to counteract anything you could do to try and keep her from certain things. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Now come on. How do we know you aren't the 13 year old looking to get banking details from your dad to increase your allowance? ... lol
Instead of asking for hacker advice, ask for teenage daughter advice. Talk to her ... as the adult she thinks she is. After all, if she finds out you have been snooping about her behind her back, she will find other ways to be even more secretive.
Take her to a coffee shop or someplace neutral and set a good atmosphere and ask how you 2 can get around the online useage question.

Before you start the spying, try the talking. Don't jump directly into what she is doing on the computer, but try to talk about the rest of her life and then lead into the computer usage. It may just be a boyfriend she doesn't want you to know about or even trying to set up something for your birthday or Christmas.
If the two of you have not spoken about life in the past, then it will be a rough go at first but keep trying. Open communication is critical, especially for raising children. Remember, children do need their privacy and a computer is part of it.
You should already have set up parental controls on the computer to keep her from accessing porn and hate websites. If you have to set these up know then you will have to sell her on the idea that it is for her own good and that is the hardest sell to make. Even Bush can't convince the Iraqi and Afghani that overthrowing their governments was for their own good.

Go to download.com and type in keystoke recorder. These programs lurk int he background and monitor all the keystrokes that a user makes on the machine. When they are off the machine, you justh ave to go into a text file and you can see everything that she typed/clicked. But make sure if you have any anti-virius/anti-spyware programs that scan your computer you check to make sure they arent picking up this program and deleting them because they are usually made to find keystroke readers and eliminate them. Keep on doing what you are doing and keep her out of trouble, shes too young.

One thing you can do is look at the history file. This will show where the computer has been for a set period of time. You can buy a memory that plugs in between the keyboard and the computer that stores everything typed. These aren't too expensive. One place they are available is from Cyber Guys...IN that catalog or I think also in there Extreme Geek catalog. cyberguys.com .

i think that it is an invasion of privacy. Think back to your teenage years. Weren't you always secretive with your parents? She just wants to feel like she has some independence from you.
