I think I'm the "romantic sort" of person...every time I go grocery shopping I always come home with a little "treat" for my husband (usually something chocolate lol) ....when I see a really good sale on DVDs, I usually buy him a movie I know he likes...anytime I see something small that he would like, and I can afford it, I'll get it. I like to surprise him! :) It's fun.

May I ask why you're so against accepting the gifts in the spirit they were offered--with love for you and cheer for your wedded happiness? I suspect your guests gave you those gifts because they WANTED to. Had they wanted to donate to a charity, they would have. My husband and I contribute to charitable causes on a regular basis, but we still offer tangible gifts to celebrate others' big occasions. I'd be hurt and offended if you gave my gift away to some charity. What you're proposing is saying -I already told you I didn't want your dumb gift, so since you gave me one anyway, I gave it away. I think you think you're doing the right thing, but truly, you're being insensitive to your guests who care about you, and who want a nice life for you.

I buy little things year round and not just for my loved ones. I have co-worker who collect things (snowmen, frogs, etc) so when I see something they might like I buy it for them and give it as a gift. (I don't believe in buying something for someone if they did ask you to then take money from them). I'm not always the nicest person but I do believe in senseless beauty and random acts of kindness.

I only buy things for special occasions. I can't afford to spend money on presents all the time. Besides there are many other ways to show you love someone!

When you are both in love, the best gift you can give each other is everlasting love, a gift that money cannot buy.
