I read somewhere that the emachines power supplies are weak. If I replace the power supply what are the chances the machine will work? I my chances are nil I'll just have to take it to the repair shop.

If you know of a good repair shop, you can usually bring in your PC and ask them to change the power supply in front of you. If they do and it works, perfect. If not, then it's obviously something else and since you're already there I'm pretty sure they can tell you what the issue is.

What I would check for is the amount of wattage on the power supply. If it's lower then 300, forget it. Hope everything works out.

You are probably right. Does the fan on your Power supply start up. If so It may be a different problem. If you get no activity, the PS is probably dead. Most PCs use a standard AT or ATX power supply. Open up your case and measure the dimensions or see if it says AT or ATX. If so you can buy a replacement PS from sites like newegg.com. I would get at least a 400W PS at a minimum.
